Good News

Sameers team won 2-0, yipee!!!!!!
Fuad, I know you have given me good advice re food and reading labels etc and it is much appreciated. But I only use wholemeal pasta, never ever, ever, make cream sauces, never eat garlic bread do not drink coffee, do not use white sugar ever, do not use packets or ready mixed food and only use stoneground organic white flour for yorkshire puddings and cakes which we probably have once a month. We eat very little bread of which most I make myself. We eat our own homegrown salads, fresh eggs from our chickens and will soon be eating our own veg. We probably eat out once a month and it is usually an Indian meal,we do not eat take aways, everything else I cook from scratch. I drink de-caff tea, use organic milk and we make our own cocoa drink, we do not use drinking chocolate. Finally I do not buy kit kats, chocolate or biscuits. If anyone visits all I can offer are Seeds of Change organic health bars with their tea.
There is very little the man in the book can tell me other than what you have and don't forget I grew up during and after the war when food was rationed and nothing was processed and we all did proper cookery lessons at school from scratch. A 'Garden Blur ' cook I am not, but I do know how to make good basic meals and use food economically and we enjoy what I make. We do not eat as much raw food as you but that is by choice and teeth and gums being frail?
So don't assume we are eating crap food because for most of the time like yourselves we are not. Our biggest problem are portion sizes and we should do some work on that?
I am now off to have a cup of tea and a piece of homemade brownie.
Michael has left for Turkey and the weather has been cool, cloudy and sunny.
Night all

Mam, someone who eats like that should be razor thin. I seem to remember lots of pop and white bread consumed the last time you were here.

Not true, someone who eats big portions can be fat even if they eat healthily.

I refer you to a story I was told about a friend who worked with a woman on a diet. She went to Weight Watchers and was gaining weight despite following the plan set out for her, and the reason, because she was eating too much fruit and merely replacing the amount of snacks she used to eat with things like bananas.

Read my comment again, I said we had to work on portion sizes?????
As Gina said a person can eat healthily but still be fat and have had months where I couldn't exercise and felt depressed but I still snacked healthily.
I only drank the organic pops you bought for the house and for the most ate the brown bread that you bought for the house so do not cast aspertions. One can only eat healthily when staying with you as the food in the house is good. However there has to be an enjoyment factor in all of this and as a nearly 68year old that is a high priority in my book. I am not eating to lose weight though it would be nice if it happened, I am eating to stay and feel healthy and to enjoy my food and feel happy. Again I will refer to my GP who said worrying about something can become bigger than that what you are worrying about and cause more stress which in itself is a killer. So for 90% of the time we eat healthily, I get loads of fresh air in the garden which is free, I get more than enough exercise now for someone of my age and feel well and happy. To finish, when I worked I saw lots of thin people who lived healthy lives die very young. If I was to die tomorrow I would feel that I had had a full and interesting life.

Sonia, you are absolutely right, stress is the number one killer. I went through the first year ever I can remember without getting sick. I know my immune system is healthier but I believe I handle my stress much better now, and the yoga is what did it for me. I breathe better, hold my shoulders in a downward relaxed position and have learned to clear my mind of messy clutter. People de-stress by different ways. Also, portion sizes are a problem for me. I always eat smaller portions when Sandra is here cause she eats small portions. But, normally, I'm like you, I like to enjoy my food, and nothing beats a cup of tea with cake or pudding.
