Forgot to tell you Mary Sue that Michael 'fettled' the upstairs today and did a really good job. He has told me to stay downstairs as he 'doesn't want me making a mess up there'
The word came from either the steel or cutlery trade where people had to polish things to a high standard and were called fettlers. If I am not right someone out there will have more info, but it is a lovely word isn't it?
love Sonia

Fettling was used to describe the act of chiseling burrs off metal castings and tidying them up,it was a semi skilled trade. Graham
